"For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

John 3:16 (CSB)

Take the First Step in Faith

Deciding to follow Jesus is the most important choice you can make. Starting out can feel overwhelming, but you’re not alone. This page guides you with resources for your first steps in faith. Being part of a community of believers is key—walking together helps us grow and stay focused on Jesus as we await His return.

And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.

Hebrews 10:24-25

Making The Decision

Declaring the decision

Be Baptized in Water

Baptism in water is an important step in your faith journey after deciding to follow Jesus. It’s a joyful, public way to show your commitment and obedience, following the example Jesus set when He Himself was baptized. Jesus also commanded His followers to be baptized, symbolizing the death of our old life and the beginning of a new life in Him.

As you continue to grow in your walk with God, this step is a beautiful way to celebrate your faith. Here is a video from Impact Video Ministries that does a great job explaining water baptism and what it means for your life with Christ.

Pray

Communication is key in any relationship, and it’s no different with God. We can’t truly follow Jesus without developing a close, personal relationship with Him. Spend time with Him daily in prayer—no fancy words needed. Just be yourself, be humble, and share what’s on your heart.

Here are a few simple ways to get started:

  • Set aside a specific time each day—even just 5–10 minutes.
  • Talk to God honestly—share your joys, worries, and questions.
  • Approach Him as Creator—be humble and respectful as you come before the King of Kings, the one who brought you salvation.
  • Listen, too—pause and pay attention to what God might be saying through Scripture, thoughts, or impressions.
  • Keep a journal—write down your prayers, reflections, or answers you notice.

Read the Word

GETTING STARTED

Knowing God’s Word is essential. We can’t truly follow Jesus if we don’t know His Word. The more we study and learn about God, the more clearly we recognize His voice and grow in our faith. As we grow, our lives will reflect the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22–23 (CSB): "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things."

Not sure where to begin? A great place to start is by reading the Gospel of Luke, followed by the book of Acts, and then the Gospel of John. This will give you a solid foundation in Jesus’ life on earth and the beginnings of the church.

Here’s a simple plan you can follow:

Days 1–14: Read 2 chapters of Luke each day (24 chapters total).

Days 15–28: Read 2 chapters of Acts each day (28 chapters total).

Days 29–39: Read about 2 chapters of John each day (21 chapters total).

In about 5–6 weeks, you’ll have read the story of Jesus’ life, the birth of the church, and another Gospel perspective that strengthens your foundation.

Be sure to pray and ask God to reveal Himself as you read.

Keep Going

Continue reading the Scriptures and listen for God's voice. Here is a simple, reflective approach:

🙏  Prepare: Take a quiet moment and ask God to speak through His Word.

📖  Read: Slowly read a short passage - a few verses or even just one.

👀  Notice:  Pay attention to what “pops out” - a word, phrase, or image that catches your eye.

💭  Reflect:

  • Ask:
  • Why did this stand out?
  • What might God be saying to me?
  • How does it apply to my life today?

✍️  Respond: Pray, journal, or make a simple commitment based on what you read.

🪑  Contemplate: Sit quietly and let the Scripture sink in. Sometimes the insight comes just from being present with God’s Word.

❤️  Meditate: Carry this verse or thought with you throughout your day, continuing to reflect on it and its meaning.

Tip: You don’t need to finish a chapter—sometimes one verse is enough to hear from God.
